Crosslinking

While crosslinking is accepted by search engines, excessive amounts of crosslinking is definitely not.

You need to ensure that you crosslink wisely and effectively. This means that you should crosslink only with your websites that match in tone or content.

The reason for this simple. If you crosslink haphazardly or to any and all sites you own, disregarding content, the search engines will penalize and most probably ban your sites.

And once a search engine has banned one or all of your websites, it can take months of sweat and tears to get them unbanned. In fact Google and Yahoo! actually warn website owners against excessive crosslinking.

The moral of the story is to crosslink responsibly and within the 'rules' laid down by the search engines to stay in their good books and increase your rankings.
