links 'dropping off'. FFA pages were successful in attracting traffic to
websites and were perceived as an added value service.
They were also known to
boost search engine page rankings.
However, the popularity of FFA pages waned with the introduction of 'spam' where
FFA pages starting filling up with junk. In addition, software became available
that, for a fee, would automatically disseminate your links to thousands of
online FFA pages.
As a result, due to the high volume of links being sent out, website links often remained on
an FFA page for just a couple of seconds.
This 'over saturation' resulted in the decline of FFA pages, particularly when
the search engines stopped ranking them.
