To ensure quality backlinks, the ideal is to link exchange with sites with
related content to yours that each have a high page ranking. However, by
designing content rich and genuinely interesting sites, other sites will want to
link to yours voluntarily.
Here are instructions on how to check your backlinks on the a few of the major
search engines.
Finding Backlinks on Google
In Google's search box type: link:yourdomain.com.
To hone the search even further, type: yourdomain.com -site:www.yourdomain.com -site:yourdomain.com.
The results that come up will show you the pages that link to your site, but not
the links on pages on your own site. This facility also shows websites that
simply mention your domain, but aren't linked to it.
Finding Backlinks on Yahoo!
In Yahoo!'s search box type:
link:http://www.yourdomain.com -site:www.yourdomain.com.
To refine the search, type: linkdomain:www.yourdomain.com
-site:www.yourdomain.com -site:yourdomain.com. On Yahoo!, this search
excludes internal links but includes links to every page on your site, not just
your homepage.
Finding Backlinks on MSN
In MSN's search box type: link:yourdomain.com or link:yourdomain.com -site:yourdomain.com
Finding Backlinks to an individual page
In Google's search box type: yourdomain.com/page.html -site:yourdomain.com.
Be aware that the results don't actually give you links but rather mentions.
In Yahoo!'s search box type: link:http://www.yourdomain.com/page
In MSN's search box type: link:yourdomain.com/page
Finding Backlinks on Alltheweb
In Alltheweb's search box type: link:www.yourdomain.com
Finding Backlinks on Hotbot
In Hotbot's search box type: linkdomain:www.yourdomain.com
Checking Link Popularity
